debut wearing and dressing down halogen pencil skirt

Hello lovely ladies,
This is my first actual outing for my new black Halogen seamed pencil skirt. I had posted a few days ago a couple of stylings to make sure it was a go before cutting the tags off. It is a gray overcast day and will only reach 60 degrees if I am lucky. I decided I wanted to try dressing the skirt down for it's first outing as this is a more laidback and comfortable look for me. I hope it looks ok to you all. I do feel pretty comfortable stylewise in it. Oh and the previous post more dressed up post is listed below:

black/cream striped boatneck
denim jacket
black pencil skirt
Black heeled sandals
white watch
carrying red raincoat in case of rain.

Here is the post to the first styling group where I got the thumbs up on keeping it along with a dress and two jackets.

    This is one of my favorite looks on you ever!

  • Janet replied 11 years ago

    Love it! Isn't that skirt great? I love mine, but I think mine is a three season item -- too warm for summer here.

  • christieanne replied 11 years ago

    Oh wow! I have probably said this before but seriously, this is the best outfit of yours ever! Just so chic. Absolutely great.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

    Love! Especially those shoes with the striped top!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Anna,
    Thanks for liking it! I just read your "dialing back" post and am so sorry your fashion budget is not as healthy as it was before! I know fashion is a passion for you! I hope your back is getting better!

    @Janet,
    I am still getting used to the skirt but I think I will like it very much! I think it will do for all but the hottest of days here. Of course we DO have a lot of hot days in Idaho!

    @christieanne,
    You may have said it before but I"m not tired of hearing it! Thanks so much for liking it!

  • Kirti replied 11 years ago

    Wow! Meredith you look just fantastic! You should wear skirts more often!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

    YAY! Great dressed down look! And still not THAT dressed down, really. ;-)

  • HelenInCanada replied 11 years ago

    Looking good - the skirt works nicely with your more relaxed pieces here!

  • cheryle (Dianthus) replied 11 years ago

    Looks great Meredith - but everything looks great on you. I like the use of the stripes and denim to casual it down a bit without making it too casual.

    Very nice.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

    Fabulous outfit Meredith and perfect dressing down look!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Rae,
    Thanks for the nice compliment! These sandals have been pretty versatile so far!

    @Kirti,
    That's nice of you to say! I am slowly trying to wear dreses and skirts a little more frequently.

    @AG,
    Why thank you. I am not sure how much more dressed down the skirt could be but am looking forward to trying it with sweaters and boots come fall. Also itching to wear it with one of my numerous faux leather jackets.

    @HelenInCanada,
    I am glad to hear that the skirt is playing nicely with my frequently worn staples (denim jacket and striped boatneck).

    @dianthus,
    Wow! That is so sweet of you! I am glad you like the look I was going for!

    @Shannon,
    Thanks so much! I am happy that you think I hit the right note with the skirt and denim!

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

    Ooh! Skirt twin!!

    This looks fab on you.

    I love wearing mine with my faded denim, too. Perfection.

  • replied 11 years ago

    This is a great idea! I have never though of making a casual outfit out of the Halogen skirts... I already have a few things in mind. Brava!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Suz,
    *waving at skirt twin* Oh Suz, point me towards a pic of you wearing your with denim. I want some more inspiration!

    @Zapotee,
    Thanks! I wasn't sure when I tried it but I had read Angie's post about dressing down a more dressy skirt and this is as close to a dressy skirt as I can get. Besides, I needed it to feel in my comfort zone and this puts it there!

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

    POlished casual done to perfection! I'm sure it looks even better with the insouciant addition of a red raincoat, and it's not often one can say that of an outfit!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

    I don't think it could be much more dressed down - what I meant was that it doesn't look supercasual to me because it is still such a nice skirt. You did a perfect job. :)

    I have the same skirt and if I were wearing my skirts (I seem to be avoiding skirts recently) I would copy this look. Will save for future reference!

  • texstyle replied 11 years ago

    Looks really great! I'm not a skirt person so I can appreciate you making this your own - it's a perfect outfit, esp. with those shoes.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @ManidipaM,
    Thanks so much! I didn't even put on the raincoat in the picture and you were still able to see it in your mind's eye!

    @AG,
    Thanks! I totally get what you are saying. The skirt itself is pretty formal so I've tried to really lighten it up. What would you think of the same skirt with dark tights, boots and a moto jacket to toughen it up?

    @texstyle,
    I hear you as I am not much of a dress/skirt girl but I am branching out a little and am happy the shoes are working well with it!

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

    Wow this is just such a great outfit for you! And thumbs up for trying new stuff with such great success. I have to take notice of pencil/denim/sandal for my new black pencil (Ann Taylor) which I though would be a workhorse for autumn and winter. :-) Thank you for giving uninterntional inspiration ;-)

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Harmonica,
    I am glad to humbly supply you with inspiration! I am determined to wear this skirt as many seasons as I can!

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

    I agree with this being one of your best looks. The sandals are fab, too !

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    KILLER

    Now lets shop specs to top it all off!

  • Ana replied 11 years ago

    This is an awesome outfit, Meredith! I love the sandals. They are just a tiny bit edgy! :D
    You look fab!

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    You should live in pencil skirts. This loos great with the striped top & dress it down denim.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Isabel,
    Thanks so very much! The sandals are actually pretty comfortable for a heel.

    @Ana,
    I am so glad you think the sandals a little edgy as that was exactly what I wanted!

    @Kiwichik,
    Wow! I am so glad you like me in pencil skirts. I am so new to wearing them so that is just great to get all the thumbs up! Thanks for appreciating the dress down effort too.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Angie,
    Yay for a Killer rating from Angie!
    I can start looking at specs if you can give me some general recommendations for style and maybe color?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Sure! Have you read my guidelines? That's where you start:

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Angie,
    I'll read the article and start looking at frame and taking some pics!

  • catgirl replied 11 years ago

    I would love that too.... anything with boots and a moto jacket is good with me. :)

  • harmonica replied 11 years ago

    just a thought that crossed my mind, Meredith. Wouldn't a denim pencil be great too?. That could be like an upside down outfit of what you are wearing here. I mean, denim skirt reads casual and a dressier top like a blouse, crisp button-down or blazer. Or you could copy all your lovely jeans outfits, but insert the denim skirt instead.

    I denim pencil skirt is at top of my wish list. I'd like to apply the dressier pencil (which I love!) to MOTG occations and I think the denim fabric would be the transitional clue ;-)

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Harmonica,
    That is a BRILLIANT idea! I wonder if the Halogen denim pencil skirt would work?

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @AG,
    I think I'll play dress up and see how the pencil skirt looks with any of my faux leather jackets and tights and boots. I need some cute booties if anyone has ideas. I need them to not have skyscraper heels either!

  • Aida replied 11 years ago

    I love this outfit Meredith, such a great mix of casual and dressy (my favorite!). Those black sandals are PERFECT with it. I also like your idea for fall :)

  • Jjsloane replied 11 years ago

    Another vote for GREAT outfit. I've never dressed down my Halogen seamed skirts either, but it makes sense. Nicely done.

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

    @Aida,
    I'm so glad you like the sandals with it! I love how you effortlessly combine dresses, and skirts with boots and I will be trolling for ideas!

    @Jsloane,
    Thanks for the nice words. I am just itching to find a few more skirts that I can dress up or down. This is just uncharted waters for me but I am enjoying it with all the encouragement I have been receiving.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

    Haven't read all the comments, but totally love this look on you!

  • MsMary replied 11 years ago

    Meredith, this is super fab! And yes, a denim pencil skirt would be a great addition to your fab wardrobe!
