Ask Angie: For you a dress, and my non-docs. Yellow jacket effect!

Happy Monday lovely YLFR'S

Drum roll! I am wearing a dress today after Angie gently nudged me after yesterday's post. This is not a new dress. It is an several years old AT sleeveless black shift that I wear with slings in the summer. However I'm trying it with NEW granny style boots (from the Bass outlet down from 149.00 to 23.00 dollars). I have teamed this with dark gray herringbone tights and my screaming yellow BR cardi, black and metal necklace, and my Talbots black striped jersey scarf. The topper is my new Eddie Bauer (from the outlet mall) poppy red raincoat. I really love the color. I hope this all meets with your approval. I have never worn a dress with boots and hope this work. I feel that I look a little like a "yellow jacket"!

Meredith!! You look stunning in a skirt and dress!! Look at that! So modern classic and put together!

  • Kirti replied 12 years ago

You should wear more dresses Meredith - they REALLY suit you! I love the toppers too - the yellow and poppy are perfect for spring! :)

  • Transcona Shannon replied 12 years ago

Yay - Meredith has legs!!! This is fabulous - the shift is the perfect fit and length, the boots are perfect with it, the yellow is a lovely pop of spring colour, the scarf brings in the some pattern - all a very modern and fabulous look!

These boots are made for walking........ Dress + boots = feminine attitude! Hope yo have a fabulous day!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Yes! A Dress! You look great.

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

It's fabulous to see you in a dress, Meredith!! You should definitely wear them more often because dresses can be casual too :)

You could lighten up the hosiery for Spring if you like, try sheer black or something textured and sheer.

The yellow cardi looks wonderful :)

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

Meredith, you look WONDERFUL! What an inspired idea to wear the yellow cardi *and* the poppy raincoat! Plus the boots over that GREAT dress, I'd be literally singing in the rain if I were you. SUCH a happy-making outfit!

    Ladies,
Thanks for such an overwhelmingly positive response! I am glad you liked this outfit. I am definitely encourage to try a few more. (I really only have two other dresss and NO skirts!). I hope everyone liked the poppy red coat also because I love it!

    Angie,
I promised that my very next expedition will include looking specifically at dresses and/or skirts. As long as I can team them with boots or booties and a patterned tight I won't feel too exposed! I will try a sheer black tight and I think I have a diamond pattern sheer one also!

Fantastic look! Great legs and the boots are modern looking with this. Love the yellow and poppy together. The poppy coat is a keeper for sure!

I love everything about this outfit! The dress, the yellow cardi, the boots, the raincoat! Fabulous!

  • Parsley replied 12 years ago

Yay, Meredith, for mixing it up and looking FABULOUS!
I love this outfit on you!

  • Sunita replied 12 years ago

Very nice! You should defnitely wear more dresses and skirts. Love the color of that topper.

  • Jilly replied 12 years ago

LOVE those boots, Meredith! I really like them paired with the dress, and the yellow cardi. And I want that tomato trench! Good for you for going out of your comfort zone.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

You are all making me feel soooooo good! *Happy sigh*.

    ManidipaM,
You are hilarious! I giggled at your consternation over the double, and triple post!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Jilly,
I got the poppy red trench at the Eddie Bauer outlet for $59.00 so I was pretty happy about that! I love the length and the style.

  • fern replied 12 years ago

I love the color too - the dress is a great base for your bright tops - and you look fantastic in the dress by itself. Well done.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Fern,
Thank you so much for saying the dress looked fine by itself. I always wear some sort of little sweater over it since I don't have particularly large arms but they aren't very buff!

Thank all of you for helping expand my comfort zone!

Do people prefer necklace or scarf when the topper is off? I actually wore both but tucked the necklace in the neckline while the scarf is on.

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

Wow! That looks so great that you must wear often. And then you can do the scarf one day, the necklace another. You can do either - they are both good looks!

Love the yellow! And the poppy coat is fantastic. we have an Eddie Bauer outlet nearby - must check them out soon with your coat as inspiration.

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

You look AMAZING! And I adore the neckline of the dress. I am expecting more dresses out of you now!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

Great outfits! You do look great in all of these combinations! I can't believe you got the boots for 23 dollars! That was quite a score!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

What a great dress figure you have Meredith! I love the necklace you chose for it, so perfectly chic all together.

The last time I wore a skirt was in December. I need a nudge as well.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Thanks Christieann,
I feel really fortunate as it was the only medium left in the store! I tried on the small but I like to layer underneath. I hope you score one because I adore mine already. Hubs said "you look colorful" his speaklingo for too bright but I just smiled and thanked him and sailed through the door!
    AG,
I'm gonna try, but since I am trying to primarily SMC and ONLY buy to fill existing holes or work an orphan in... you may see me posting things from department stores that I can' actually afford to buy right away! But that is legitimate too because it is expanding my style repertoire!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Jem,
Thank you! I wear a 9 1/2 so you can imagine my surprise finding the ONLY pair of them. Guess it was meant to be. I can't afford Docs and frankly I'm not sure about wearing them anyway but I did want to try a laceup boot so this is perfect for me and if anyone is interested they are VERY comfortable!
    CocoLion,
Thanks so much! Come join me in the deep in the pool. I'm sure you look fantastic in dresses as you do in everything else you wear. What I wouldn't give to be tall and willowy like you. Instead I am 5' 6 1/2" inches and 137 lbs that I am working on and slightly shortwaisted with whimpy shoulders to boot. Definitely an hourglass/pear.

  • replied 12 years ago

    You look SO GOOD!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

Thank you Alicat! That name makes me smile because it is our term of endearment for my 9 yearold step grand-daughter!

  • Sarah A replied 12 years ago

hey! 5'6" and 137 is nothing to shake a stick at ;-) love you in the dress and boots, the poppy and yellow are a nice nod to spring...

eta: didn't want you to take my humor the wrong way, I think 5-6 at your weight is quite thin...

  • replied 12 years ago

You look terrific in a dress Meredith. And I cannot *believe* the deal you got on those fab, fab lace-up boots. Way to go!
