No striped boatneck so a scarf instead?

I have been trying to find a striped boatneck that I like on me with no success so far. However, I did find this striped scarf that has that vibe I have been looking for. It is even made of jersey which reminds me of coco chanel's work with jersey. I hope you all like it!

Happy Monday?

I really like it! Where did you find the scarf? I like a jersey scarf to tone down a dressy outfit.

I know what you mean about the boat neck stiped top. All the ones that I have found are either too short or too tight fitted. I did however, find a couple this weekend at Old Navy Outlet. Your scarf & jacket combo looks great on you. Polished and chic!!!

I agree with everyone. You look tres chic!

I think that get's the same vibe across! It looks great and in the summer, you can wear it with a white T....or any color T. You look fresh and nautical!

    That looks great!

BTW, I got my striped bateau top at LL Bean and they're having 15% off today and tomorrow:

I really like the scarf. The striped boatneck I lucked into last week was at the thrift store was Old Navy originally, and I also got one a few weeks ago from Gap online (it was longer, tunic length). Mary, thanks for the headsup on the LLB sale (I probably got an email from them, but those kinds of emails get filtered straight into a folder I don't look at often - on purpose!).

I got the scarf at Talbots on sale. It is apparently the first jersey scarf they have ever had!
I hear you. Most of the tops are too tight for me as I wear a 34D and they make me look too busty. Or they are too short, or the stripes are too far apart!
Thanks for thinking it looks nice!
Good idea to try with a white tee for summer. It is soft material and hopefully won't be too warm! It does feel kind of nautical! Maybe a I need to find a peacoat too.
Thanks for the tip! I'll check that LLBean link. I really want a top that sort of just skims my body. I don't want those stripes hugging my curves too much!

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

Try the LL Bean, then! Not to huggy at all!

ETA: Here it is on me: (middle photo) and (first photo).

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

I'll check that out as well as the one that MaryK recommended.
You look so beatiful in that boatneck. The colors are WOW! It looks like it skims without being too clingy. Thanks again!

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

Did you go with a small or medium?

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

    I got the small. I'm 5'2", 122 lbs, 34D, generally wear a size S or 4 on top.

i have the gap one with the 3 buttons on the shoulder, mine is a few years old but appears to be the same one that angie linked to a few weeks ago and have been happy with it as well. has worn well thats for sure! i wore it home from the hospital after having my daughter so it is a bit big now (ive lost at least 30 pounds) but i can put a buttondown under and it still works.

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

Thanks for getting back to me so quick! I am 5' 6 1/2" and weigh about 138 right now. I want to get back down to 130 or 132 which is where I feel most comfortable. I wear anywhere from a 34d to a 36d. Do you think the small is the way to go or should I go with a medium in case of weight fluctuation?

I tried on the 3 button but just didn't love myself in it and am trying REALLY hard not to buy something that doesn't look right on me. I DID get the polkadot denim shirt at GAP that Angie recommended and really like that!

    Love this Meredith.

Thanks for the great idea. I so adore those tops but with football shoulders have to stay away from them...

  • Vicki replied 9 years ago

That's a nice-looking jersey scarf, and if you still want the nautical tee, MaryK's looks adorable on her and will on you, too. Good tip added by Claire to use the scarf with a white tee in summer. Go for it.

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

I still DO want to get a striped boatneck and I think MaryK's top looks like it might work! I am glad to have the scarf so I can still have my parisian nod to the sailor top!
I wish I had your shoulders! Mine are sloping shoulders. :(

I have my eye on boatnecks the that are the same ones MaryK has but I am looking at the black/white and Cream/Navy. I am a little leary about the fact that I would have to pay shipping back if they don't fit properly but the shipping cost back isn't that expensive. They do look adorable on her and I hope they will look as nice on me!

I see you may find your boatneck yet, but the scarf is excellent and makes a great look on you.

  • MsMary replied 9 years ago

Meredith, honestly if I'm not sure of the size I order both!

I love your scarf! I'm still looking for a striped tee as well.....

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

    Hi MaryK
I will try ordering the small. I usually DO wear a size 6 or 8 in both pants and tops so hopefully that will work. Thanks so much for the tip about the coupon.

    Shevia and Melllis,
    Thanks for liking the scarf!

  • ButterflyLady replied 9 years ago

I love that scarf - I have been idly wondering about getting a jersey scarf, either polka dot or stripe - I now feel inspired! I feel your pain about striped tops - I am a UK 34DD, and have found it hard to find a flattering stripe top - I'm still looking!

I like your whole outfit - very chic.

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

    Thank you very much ButterflyLady!

  • nancylee replied 9 years ago

I think the striped scarf is an excellent substitute for the "feel" of a striped tee. But I'm sure you're perfect tee is out there somewhere! Have faith. :)

  • Meredith1953 replied 9 years ago

Thanks for the encouragement. MaryK pointed me towards LLBean and I ordered 3 of their boatneck striped shirts. I have my fingers crossed that they will be "the ones".
