I can't be of much help re. pants, since I don't own a single pair! But I do love your scarf and purple looks great on you :)

Join the club! Rae has been searching for ages, check her posts for Angie's picks. I seem to remember Banana Republic.....Martin pants? Not sure. Good luck!

You are not alone! I joined Rae in her search and it seems to be a common problem, so c'mon along. I like the ones you have on here though.

Much better to have 3 pair of well-fitting pants, than a handful of misfits like me! Have you tried any of Gloria Vanderbilt's lines? I really like her 'Mona' and there are other good ones, but my caffiene hasnt kicked in yet! What about jeans? I think medium to dark wash would be great on you!

I only own three pairs of pants so I may not be much help here. Even then, these pants I own are just a basic black knit flared pants from INC and the other is Karen Kane's denim jeggings/pull-on jeans. I'm guessing you're looking for different colours?

Meredith -- take a look at Shannon's post about her pant woes! I'm going to check out the archives when I get a little time for Angie's advice on dress pants. I'm not liking what I'm finding, etiher, although I'm probably going to wait until fall to replace my pants. Mostly, I think you need to check out inseam, since your legs seem wonderfully long!

I ended up having some luck at Esprit - I did have to size up, but I'm pleased with the quality and fit. I am definitely having a bit of a love/hate relationship with pants these days though!

I know many who have had success with the BR Sloan trousers and Angie recommends them quite often.

    Kirti,
Thanks for admiring the scarf with the purple. You may not wear many pants but yours always look nice.
    ClearlyClaire,
I DO remember some of Rae's posts and she does mention the BR Martin or is it the Sloane cut? I have BR local so they will be one of my stops!
    JsSloane,
I count myself in good company with you! The pants I am wearing in these pics is a pair of dockers that I picked up at Fred Meyer. I really needed a pair of pants for work since I work in a different department now and am not allowed to wear jeans :( They do work pretty well and I like the cut.
    BiscuitsMom,
I agree that it's better to only have 3 pairs of pants that fit well vs lots that don't. I would like a couple of different colors though. I am not going to settle though for pants I dont feel good in though. I really am sad I can't wear dark wash jeans to work.
    MsKatieKat,
Very true, I would like a little color. I think I could even get away with colored denim as long as it isn't "blue jeans".
    BethAnn,
I'll check out Shannon's posts! I should check out Angie's posts on dress pants as well. My inseam is 32 1/2" I think but I like pants a little longer cause they feel short if I'm not wearing flats.

  • Kappy replied 12 years ago

I know you're looking for "work", but I've always thought you would rock a pair of skinny jeans! You should also look at skinny trousers and ponte pants. Something like this (but with a longer inseam obviously, these are just 28"

    Shannon,
I will definitely try the BR Sloan and maybe the Martin. We have a store locally so that helps. Your trousers always look exceptionally well tailored! I definitely have the love/hate thing going right now. I'm have been bad about my exercise and and 8 lbs up in weight. Boo!!
    Kappy,
Why thank you for thinking I should try skinnies! Although my first priority is 1-2 more pairs of work pants, I am not adverse to trying the skinnies. I haven't found any I love yet but I'll keep looking. The Calvin Klein ones are really cute but of course short but they make some that are longer don't they? It's funny because my sister just mentioned on Sunday that she saw some colored skinny jeans by Calvin Klein. I'll be checking them out!

Great outfit. J Crew have some great pants that are wool and very well structured.

    KiwiNicole,
Thanks so much for the tip! I'll spend some quality time on their website plus they have a presence at our local mall now!!!

I have only three pairs of pants that I really like but this seems to be enough, even though I wear trousers 2-3 days per week.

    BR Martin fit skinny pants.
    Halogen Taylor trousers http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ha.....enumsearch
and a pair of Esprit wool pants that other people on YLF (Rae, Jj, Isis) have tried on recently.

All are machine washable. The Esprit pants will probably be too warm once the winter is over.

Your outfit looks great and the pants seem to fit you well. I have some grey bootcut trousers from the Limited that are similar to your but the fit is not as good.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Makrame,
Thanks so much for the links and advice on pants! Shannon mentioned Esprit also. We have BR so hopefully I can try the Martin's and also the Sloans that Angie likes.

  • D'Ellen replied 12 years ago

Me too, Meredith! But I continue to wear the few pairs I have that sort of, kind of, almost fit. I too am experiencing pants woes, and I've about reached the conclusion that it's me, not the pants. : (

I just realized most of my pants are from Canadian brands! xD

Today I was at the mall and purchased a lovely pair of camel wide-leg dress pants from Gap. I don't know what style they are but they were on clearance, so if you can stand ruffling through the sales racks, you could check there!

I've also bought a pair of fantastic high-waisted brown dress pants from Anthropologie, again on sale. However, I don't think I would recommend Anthropologie as a regular stop if you're doing focused shopping for pants-- I find they're quite expensive and the styles are often really out there.

Sorry I couldn't really help. xD But I thought I could contribute something other than BR, lol!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Blonda,
I feel your pain. I think it's me and not just pants also!
    Jyoti,
Thanks for the lead about the GAP. I can certainly check their racks as they are really close to the BR in my local mall.

I agree...it's great to have a selection of colors. Im sorry, I didnt realize you were basically looking for work clothes. It is too bad you cant wear nice jeans there...I would check out Gloria Vanderbilt though...unless you need really dressy slacks. She has some nice twill and cotton mixes that arent jeans and are quite reasonably priced. Good luck!
