Here Comes the Rain Again....And the Sky is Gray

So it was so lovely yesterday and today it is gray, rainy and I feel just blah! I am posting this right before I go saddle up furbaby in his green raincoat to go for a walk. Yep...furbaby hates to get wet so this will undoubtedly be a short walk. In honor of such a gray day, it's back to black and gray with only a spot of color:

black turtleneck
levi gray demi-curve straightleg jeans
black Bass laceup knee high boots
black striped jersey scarf from Talbots
black suede rainhat
poppy red raincoat from Eddie Bauer.

Hope it meet with YLF approval. Sorry that the closeup is sans makeup but I so didn't want to do anything other than sunscreen and lip tint. Couldn't even be bothered with putting on eyebrows!

    Forgot to include picture of furbaby who is depressed by all the rain!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

    Love the way it looks so pulled together in #2. And your fur baby does look a little punished.

    I encourage my dogs to stay outside in the rain. Except for their paws, it's a free doggy bath!

    Good thing you have that raincoat to beat the blahs! You look lovely as always. OT, I now have that Eurythmics song stuck in my head.

  • christieanne replied 12 years ago

    I love that song too. Annie Lennox is just cool.

    The hat is cute on you!

    I hear you on the weather - it was pouring here on Saturday and I couldn't get out of my gray slouchy sweater and jeans. Luckily, I didn't need to leave the house (and cats walk themselves).

    @CocoLion,
    It's a nice idea to get a "free bath" from the downpour but Reilly won't stand for it. He is quite stubborn about not wanting to get wet! Yeah he looks a little "punished". Thanks for liking the outfit. I feel like I went from being all colorful to complete neutrals again. At least the raincoat brightened it up!

    @Emily,
    Thanks! BTW you should have TWO songs stuck in your head. The Eurythmics tune you mentioned and the Mama's and the Papa's "California Dreaming". I smashed the two titles together.

    @Christieanne,
    I now have a picture in my mind of the cat taking itself for a walk. They do pretty much do whatever they want don't they? That is so not like dogs!
    The hat is proving pretty handy this time of year! I'm sorry you have the crap weather also. Makes me want to just stay inside and listen to NPR and drink hot tea. Actually I think I'll turn on the gas fire and do just that! Oh and play on the computer of course!

    Despite the weather, you look lovely anyway Meredith! Poor Reilly does not look pleased at all!

  • replied 12 years ago

    Sounds like you're going to have a cozy afternoon! I love neutrals on an overcast day too, and you look fabulous. I'm starting to wonder if you have a second bedroom converted for scarf storage; I don't think I've met that one yet! I like the thin stripes and of course your red coat cheers everything up. BTW I love the way you do your make up (when you wear it). It looks so natural that I never realized (until now!) that you had any on. In my book, that's the best look of all. :) PS I'm not wearing any today either, but don't tell anyone!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    @Shannon,
    Thanks for empathizing with the little guy. He gets so pitiful when it rains like this! Thanks for the kind words!

    @Claire,
    That is a great compliment about my makeup (when I wear it). I try really hard to not look madeup. Now you can see the whimpy eyebrows and how my eyes don't stand out at all without makeup! I use 3 hangers for the scarves and just slip knot them on. I have no extra closets believe me! Thanks for giving approval to the outfit too!

    Aw, poor Reilly! I look a lot like that when it rains --- and wouldn't you know, I was born in a monsoonal deltaic city that cannot stop getting annually waterlogged (it's gone down from can't-go-there-or-I-drown to waist-deep-may-be-*just*-manageable each time it rains)... and am back to living in that city, of choice! (Wonder if Reilly and I were cats in another life. He looks like he might have belonged with a pharoah or an Egyptian princess, which would be why he appreciates his current elegant and regal mom.)

    Meredith, ditto what Claire said about your make-up. I had NO clue you were wearing anything but lippy! And I'm glad to see you don't have to put on your lovely eyes each morning, because there they still are! And your pretty hair and beautiful smile are also going nowhere, despite the rain, I'm glad to see.

    You look so pulled together and cheerful --- I have to take lessons on how to dress practically for slush and not look like a scarecrow...well, more like bedraggled crow, actually. Thanks for this tutorial! I see that adding pattern (such a FUN scarf) and a hit of colour (raincoat) over a perfectly fitted and comfy (sweater) garment is the trick :-D

    Did furbaby cheer up walking next to such a fab sight? Love the red with the gray - and love the striped scarf.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

    Poor Reilly! He does indeed look pretty darned pathetic! LOL

    You, on the other hand, look amazingly fab as usual! You have figured out your signature look so quickly, and just rock it each and every day! Love it!!

  • Angie replied 12 years ago

    Very nice! And hello adorable fur baby Reilly. Rosie says hi too.

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

    You look fresh and springlike even in gloomy weather. That coat was such a fantastic purchase. it is clearly earning its cost per wear.

    Your dog is adorable!!

  • replied 12 years ago

    That coat is the perfect remedy for any grey day! Fur baby 'aint got much fur, no wonder he's sad to go out in the cold.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Ahhhh@ Shevi,
    Furbaby is not consoled by my wardrobe choices although I certainly tried to shine as they say "shining with all its' might".

    @MaryK
    Thanks for the kind words..I do feel I have developed a sort rubric/shorthand equation for an outfit that can work with no thought. I was definitely not feeling creative today and I do feel that YLF has helped me develop a "grab and go' outfit! Furbaby says "mom you have a "look") ...."she's got the look....must get that song out of my head!! Darn Roxette!!!
    @MaindipaM,
    I don't even know where to start because I just love reading what you write!!! I am sure other people have told you how captivating you are!! Thanks for all the sweet compliments. You phrase things so beautifully!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    @Angie,
    Thanks lovely lady...furbaby is waving wet drenched paw at Rosie. He loves the "little doggies!"
    @Suz,
    I love this coat and am going to take it "to the limit". Adorable dog sends kisses to lovely Suz.
    @Tracina,
    Yep. He is short on fur and long on LOVE!! Furbaby has a nice green fleece lined GORTEX coat with a turtleneck. I need to include a picture next time, otherwise he will make you all believe he is being mis-treated!!

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

    Those grey jeans were a great find for you! Your go-to uniform never looks tired with your fab collection of scarves!

    Is furbaby a Whippet? (Did I spell that right?) I don't blame him. All I want to do on rainy, gloomy days is sleep. : )

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    @Aj-
    YES!!! furbaby is whippet!! Nice that you recognized the breed! Thanks for liking the outfit. It is definitely a formula but that is fine with me. It's nice just to be presentable in public!

  • Tanya replied 12 years ago

    First, your fur baby is adorable! He looks so cute than I want to give him a big hug!

    The outfit is lovely is and I love how the poppy overcoat and striped scarf add some cheerfulness to the rainy outfit, perfect!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

    Tanya,
    If you were within paws grasp furbaby would definitely hug you back!
    Thanks for liking the outfi! I just felt the need to interject some color and pattern on a really rainy day. it's funny because I really LIKE neutrals but I just feel like it has been too many months of this!
